I.B. Visual Studies - 2nd Year

IB VISUAL Art Studio and Research (SL and HL) is a higher-level general-art studio and research class designed for students preparing for the IB test in the Spring. Students will develop a connected body of artworks that show depth and breadth of personal voice, craftsmanship, and self-expression. Throughout the year, students will be developing their work and ideas in their Visual Art Journal with a focus on independent, critical, contextual, and visual research. Contemporary art, historical art movements and a variety of well-known artists will be studied through slide-show presentations, gallery and museum visits, and further independent research. Students will fine-tune their portfolio to be able to show their artwork in a professional presentation.

Students choosing to test in Studio Art for their 6th subject will be assessed by the classroom teacher and a sample of the student’s work will be sent to the International Baccalaureate Organization. The criteria for assessment is based on the progress and participation in the three areas assessed by the IBO: the Process Portfolio, the Exhibition, and the Comparative Study.
